Father's Day Project

Worked on this fun little project last night, it's an altered frosting container.  I save all kinds of containers hoping to someday find a use for them, so I was happy to see Susan's Dad's and Grad's blog hop project challenge to alter a jar/can with photos.

Lots of photos of this one little jar, but I wanted you to be able to see all the way around:

Added a few rub-ons and some rhinestones
Inked the chipboard, applied glitter to the 's', added pearl centers and glitter to the petals of the paper Prima flowers

Trimmed the top with mini pom-pom fringe, and the inside with rick-rack and pp

I gave it my hubby for Father's Day, but told him that I was keeping it (afterall it matches my stUdio colors better than his office at work).  I believe his smile showed some relief that he wouldn't be the laughing stock of the firm with a flowered pen holder on his desk!  It's a win-win!

You 3 are my greatest Accomplishment

A layout for Carla's sketch challenge for Scrapbook Heaven's Dads and Grads hop.

Used some Creative Imaginations rub-ons and a bit of Cuttlebug love to jazz up the tag. Fonts are Dirty Ego and CK Becky.

Thanks and hope

A couple more cards:

A sketch from PK Glitz

Cuttlebug and Cosmo Cricket

It's the end of the school year here, and that means saying thank you to all the fabulous teachers that the boys spent the year with.  I paired a Cuttlebug embossing folder with some Cosmo Cricket paper--it was a perfect match for some super quick cards.

In 3 easy steps:
  1. Cut paper: cardstock base (5.5x8.5), background solid paper with white core (5.25x4), accent pieces from pp
  2. Emboss bg paper with Cuttlebug folder and sand away some color from raised texture.
  3. Stamp sentiment, and embellish card with cut accents.

Method Playground: Borders

The challenge over at the Playground this week is to use borders on your LO.  You could use punches, stickers, rub-ons, die cuts, or be lazy like me and cut apart a sheet of patterned paper to create some borders (like the ever fabulous Cosmo Cricket Ribbon Sandwich paper from the Early Bird line).
And then if you're really lazy, you'll pair this challenge up with a sketch .

Be sure to head over to Method Playground to see the rest of the DT's fantastic designs.  And then play along with us by linking up your project in the comments.  Who knows, you might win a fabulous prize that I am now pining for!  Go, check it out!  You have until the 27th of June.

Blog Hop Project:: Box Drawer Mini Album

So glad you have stopped by for the Scrapbook Heaven "Dads and Grads" Blog Hop & Crop. If you have no idea what I am talking about, check out the details here!

I am so excited to share with you this little project I made for my dad, so let's get started.

1.  This entire project (minus the embellies) is made from a single sheet of double sided paper (12x12).  Cut your paper as follows:

2.  Score the 4 5/8" piece on all sides at 7/8".  Cut on the solid lines shown to create flaps.  Fold sides to create a box and adhere the flaps to the inside.  This is the drawer for your album.

 3. Take the 3" wide strip and score at 3", 4", 7", 8", and 11".  Trim a thin sliver off the end near the 11" score (I shaded it in the photo).  This will help your box be more flush in the next step.

4.  Put adhesive where shown above and glue the backside of the thin flap to the space between the 3" and 4" scores to create the box.

5.  Now for the mini album:  Take the 2 3/4" strip and score every 2 3/4" to create the accordion pages.

6.  Do the same with the shorter 2 3/4" strip:

7.  Now you will glue these two strips together to form a long accordion.  Apply a thin line of glue as shown in photo #5.  Using a ruler, position the two short boxes on each strip to overlap so that they measure 2 3/4".

That's it. A box and mini album from a single sheet of paper!  Have fun embellishing your project.  I added "feet" to my box and a "drawer pull" to the drawer with large brads and pony beads.

I embellished the top of the box with some glittery Prima flowers, some spiral rosebuds, and some buttons and rhinestones ('cause which dad doesn't love him some rhinestones!).

The title of my mini is We Love You for Your and each page features a single word to finish the sentence.

Front Pages
Back Pages
Here's the inside of the top flap.  Whoops!  Nothing in here yet.
I'll put the Happy Father's Day greeting here.

You can just as easily turn this little project into a gift for a grad.  Change up the paper, and make a mini the s/he could then fill with photos from the big day, or ditch the MINI for some MONEY.  Fold it up and tuck it right into the little drawer.  And how about decorating the box top to look like a mortar board with a little tassel in the school colors fastened to the center of the flap with a brad.

Now it’s your turn! Create a project using this tutorial and upload it to the Scrapbook Heaven Gallery or post a link to it in the comments at the Scrapbook Heaven Blog (under June 12th's post) by June 19th. Feel free to post a link to your project in the comments section here as well.  One lucky random winner will be selected to receive a prize provided by the awesome folks at Scrapbook Heaven.

Be sure to return to the Scrapbook Heaven Blog tomorrow to see what your next stop is.

Lazy Girl's Crochet Hook Holder

Remember this project

I totally love it.  It's what I keep all my crochet hooks in.

But I got to thinking, is there a down and dirty way to make this without having to cut out fabric and piece it together?  Enter: the placemat.

It's a double sided, ready-made chunk of fabric.  And heck if I can turn it into a purse, I can surely sew it into a crochet hook holder.  It's a Lazy Girl Project (just coined that term, wonder if someone's already trademarked it??  A quick search shows that it is a blog, and they make purses, go figure!)  I digress, and again wonder what we ever did before google.

OK, back to the task at hand. Get yourself a cute little placemat.  I found mine at Target, and for once used my smarts and bought more than one cuz they were so darn cute.

Step One: Fold the bottom third or so of the placemat up towards the center.  Use your hooks as a guide to be sure you have enough top flap leftover to cover the hooks.  The hooks will stick out of the pocket.

Step Two: Fold a length of ribbon (approx. 20-24") in half and sandwich in between the two layers you just created on one side. Sew along the length on both edges.  Do as I say, not as I did on this one.  I didn't sandwich the ribbon, and ended up with this zigzaggy mess putting my ribbon on after the fact.

Step Three: Stitch the pockets.  Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and ending of each line.  Use your hooks as a guide for width, keeping in mind that the larger hooks are quite thick.  I sewed several pockets at a narrow thickness (maybe 1/2-3/4") and the rest at about 1".  I left a large pocket at the end for scissors, stitch markers, and stuff.

Step Four: Stitch along the length of the fold of the top flap.  This just helps to create a crease so that it folds in the right spot every time

Then fold it up:

 And tie it closed:

That's it! Seriously, a 30 minute project.  Give it a try!

Dads and Grads Blog Hop and Crop

The DT and Staff at Scrapbook Heaven have put together 8 days of how-to's, sketches, and inspiration for the Dads and grads in your life.  The fun begins this Friday, the 11th and runs through Saturday, the 19th.  And there will be prizes!!  You can check out all the deets at the Scrapbook Heaven Blog

Here's a sneak of the project I'll be sharing.

why i scrap

I have been wanting to create a page about why I scrapbook for quite some time.  Courtney's challenge last month gave me an excuse to examine this question, and create a LO.  Of course, I missed the May 31st deadline, but I got my page created, and that's what's most important!

Journaling reads:
to record: our legacy for generations to come, so our great- great- great-grandchildren will know where they came from.  to play: with papers and embellies, to have fun, experiment, and get messy. to remember: the happy times, the sad times, the special times, and all the times in between.  to express: what's deep down in my heart, the love I have for the people most important to me.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

OK, so I am a giveaway delinquent!  I was thinking of reposting the giveaway to try to get a few more entrants, but what the hey--there'll be other giveaways!

My apologies for all those who have been waiting with bated breath to see who would win the 3 tubes of Pink Paislee Pixee (say that 10 times fast).  I guess it pays to be first, so...

Lolly Chops, you're the winner!!

I will get these in the mail to you this week.  I know you will make something fab with them!

Reveal Time at Scrapbook Heaven!

It's the first of the month, and that means it's time for the big kit reveal over at Scrapbook Heaven.  This month I worked with the Elite Kit, though I am kicking myself in a huge way that I didn't scoop up the Petite kit as well (hope they're not all gone by the time I get to order one).  The Elite kit has so much variety in it--I was able to scrapbook about Christmas, Easter, the beach, and everything in between (what kind of kit offers that??)

So here are my LO's".  I'll let you know what I supplemented (it's hardly anything at all).
supplemented with white cardstock background
I painted the orange letters with acrylic paints in the word "color".

100% kit here folks
added vanilla cardstock; printed title

used my own kraft cardstock

again, my kraft cardstock

supplemented with vanilla cardstock
my own green cardstock background; machine stitched the pp blocks and top border

100% kit, including that yummy green rosette trim

And after all that, I still have kit leftover for quite a few more projects!

Head on over to the forum to check out the rest of the DT's gorgeous projects using both kits.
